I
have my own special story of how the RMB diet helped my lovely best friend Annie
rehabilitate after spending 4 years in racing kennels and on the track. The changes
I noticed in her when I switched her to the RMB diet was quite remarkable!
When Annie retired from her racing days she was finding it increasingly difficult
to find a permanent home due to her aggressive outbursts. She had bitten a number
of people. I had just written to all the local dog's homes in the area stating
that I wanted to foster and rehabilitate a dog with special needs. I got a call
back straight away from the Retired Greyhound Trust telling me all about a very
special dog they had that needed lots of help. This is the story of how I met
and helped Annie. |
When
I first met Annie she looked quite sad and miserable, her coat was very dull and
flakey, her eyes were bloodshot, and she had a bloated stomach. She had scars
all over her body where she had been fighting in her kennels and she had the most
dreadful mouth rot I had ever seen. She was nervous beyond belief and would snap
and bite at anyone that came to close to her. Her aggressive outbursts were pretty
scary and I knew there and then I wanted to help her.
As a racing dog,
Annie's' diet had consisted of this dry food that could only resemble cardboard.
It was a grey coloured biscuit; it really didn't look nutritious at all. Yet on
the bag it said something like "The best food for greyhounds".
Her pooh
was coming out a bright yellow sticky sloppy mess and was causing her great discomfort
to pass it. |
At
the time Annie came into my life, I had already been introducing Dr Tom Lonsdale's
Raw Meaty Bones diet to my clients and noticing huge benefits to their dog's health
and Behaviour. I had made contact with Dr Tom Lonsdale after reading his book
Work Wonders and was actively promoting his approach to raw feeding in my consultations.
Dr Tom Lonsdale had graduated by the Royal Veterinary College, London
in 1972. He admits he was slow to recognise problems associated with feeding pets
commercial foods from packets and tins and followed conventional teachings by
his profession. But by the late 1980she had begun to wake up to the alarming dangers
that this type of diet was contributing to our pet's ill health. Together with
a small group of veterinarians he set out to campaign against the authorities
in the veterinary associations to lift the lid on the pet food industry and veterinary
profession alliance. |
I
followed Tom's advice and started Annie on the RMB diet straight away. Within
weeks her mouth rot had cleared up altogether and her aggressive outbursts were
getting less and less as a result of this.
As I watched her satisfaction
whilst she ripped, tore, shredded and crunched her way through her RMB's, I felt
complete sense of satisfaction in realising I was indeed providing the dog in
my care with what she needed.
Mother Nature had given her a set of teeth
and a digestive system equipped to deal with this diet and she loves every RMB
I throw down for her. It has become her favourite part of the day!
The
changes I noticed in Annie were dramatic and really amazing. |
Her
teeth actually became white again... All the plaque and tartar had been removed
by nature's best toothbrush, the bone! Her coat gleamed like never before and
I had people stopping in the street to say how calm, beautiful and healthy she
looked! I would then be asked what you are feeding her.
Her feaces became
firm and dark and would turn white if left in the sun. I noticed she drank far
less than when she was on the dry biscuit diet and there was much less for me
to pick up in the garden.
Her inner beauty just shined, her aggressive
outbursts ceased completely and she is happy for most stranger to touch and fuss
her again.
Infact Annie is so balanced on this diet that I can now take
her into my client consultations with me and she helps me work to rehabilitee
the other dogs.
She is a great testimonial of the RAW food diet and my
clients can see just how healthy she is on it. Infact I often get asked I if would
swap their dog for Annie!! Lol ! Not a chance, But it just goes to show with a
balanced and healthy raw diet and the right behaviour programme set, any dog can
be rehabilitated back to full mental and psychical health in a short time.
Think about it this way. You wouldn't put diesel into a petrol engine. Why put
grains based, processed, cook foods that have been chemically coloured and preserved
into your dogs system on a daily basis? Put the right kind of fuel in and you
will get the top performance from your dog.
